Earls Court Exhibition Centre

Earls Court was once, a wasteland of disused rail tracks and industrial waste. John Robinson Whitley made the first propositions that the land should be turned into an entertainment facility. In 1935 and the land was sold and its new owners decided to design and build a show centre that would dwarf the Olympia.

The ambitious project encountered several obstacles during construction. Overrunning its budget, the project required new investors to see the plan to fruition. In 1937 Earls Court exhibition centre opened its doors for the first time and hosted a Chocolate and confectioners exhibition. After this success the Motor Show moved to the centre. The short construction time was nothing short of a miracle but the final cost of the ambitious project was well in excess of £1.5 million.  With the huge success of the exhibition centre it soon meant that more space was required, this extension was named Earls Court Two and was opened by Diana Princess of Wales in 1991. With its new extension the column - free floor space building could now hold four jumbo jets. At an amazing seventeen thousand square metres this still one of London’s largest engineering feats, regularly hosting concerts shows and exhibitions.

Tardis Police Box

An iconic blue police box that has been made famous by the television series Dr. Who where ‘the doctor’ used one as a ‘Tardis’ in order to travel in time and space. These actual police boxes were extremely common in London between 1929 and 1969, where they were used as a means of communications between police on the beat and the police station. The introduction of portable radios saw them phased out in the late sixties. In 1996 this very box was the first of a high tech’ revival of the system but failed to become a success there it is only remaining police box in London.
